Social
Justice Ministry Special Speaker: On Wednesday September 16, the Social Justice Ministry for Holy Saviour and St. John parishes will host Kevin Moran, director of the New Visions Community Center, a “drop-in” center serving the homeless community in Camden. Our parishes have been developing a deepening relationship with New Visions. Our Helping Hands has already begun some much-needed work on the New Visions facility and a similar effort is planned for the fall. Likewise, we’re planning to host a Saturday luncheon in October at which we will provide and serve a meal to the New Visions patrons. Campaigns to collect food donations, cleaning supplies and reading material are also ongoing. The gathering will be in McDaid Hall at Holy Saviour Parish and will begin at 7:00 PM. If you’re able to bring a donation of canned goods or cleaning supplies (laundry detergent, bleach, etc.) collection boxes will be available. We hope to see a great many of you there! Regular Monthly Meeting: The September meeting of the Social Justice Ministry for Holy Saviour and St. John parishes is scheduled for Wednesday, September 23rd . The meeting will be held in McLaughlin Hall and will begin at 7:00 PM. The agenda will include further discussion of our efforts at New Visions Community Center in Camden. We’re planning a second Helping Hands project at New Visions as well as hosting a Saturday lunch there in October. In addition, we’re beginning to plan a 4-session discussion series based on Pope Benedict’s encyclical on justice, peace and human development, plus other events and projects for the coming year, such as Fair Trade and Work of Human Hands. All are welcome. Social Justice Committee Collection: Beginning in September the Social Justice Committee will begin collecting items such as socks, towels and detergent to be donated to New Visions Ministries, a drop-in center for homeless people in Camden. We're looking for a few volunteers (families welcomed) to help us sort and pack the items collected. This should take about 30 minutes after the 11:00 Mass about once a month. We're also looking for people to help us with the Fair Trade coffee sales in the fall and winter. If you can give us a few hours, please call Jim and Mickey Steinitz 856-858-5484.
